BASIC PURPOSE : Responsibilities include assisting the Manager of Safety to ensure a safe and secure working environment for all Love’s, Musket, Trillium, Love’s Truck Solutions, SpeedCo and Gemini employees. The position is also responsible for maintaining programs designed to promote continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental areas of the Company’s operations.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, establishes, implements, and maintains a variety of occupational health and safety programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for all Love’s employees.

  • Create new training methods via Powerpoint or other mediums quickly and be able to communicate it to an audience of 20-100 people without hesitation.

  • Must have an excellent understanding of Behavior Based Safety Practices and other safety philosophies and methodologies.

  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace.

  • Survey to identify and evaluate occupational health and safety conditions.

  • Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.

  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and implement changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate work place accidents and injuries.

  • Conduct specialized safety and health training programs to communicate hazard control information.

  • Facilitate new employee occupational health, safety and environmental orientation.

  • Compile, analyze, interpret and report accident, loss, and exposure statistical data; prepare comprehensive recommendations for corrective action to eliminate or minimize potential hazards.

  • Review injury and property damage reports.

  • Incorporate essential occupational health, safety, and environmental requirements in all purchasing and control actions.

  • Determine the purchase of safety equipment and supplies.

  • Other duties assigned as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences or a related safety field preferred

  • Experience:

  • Applicant must have 2-3 years minimum Safety experience in General Industry, Construction, or any other area applicable to the standards of CFR 1910, 1926, etc.

  • Applicant must be familiar with several of the following industries where EHS applies: retail gas stations, restaurants & food safety, commercial tire and mechanical (will train if necessary), manufacturing, hospitality, oil & gas, minor environmental compliance.

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Skills:

  • Hard Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office, training or knowledge of occupational health and safety compliance with applicable federal and state regulations/standards, ability to hands on train on health and safety, requires experience in implementation of health and safety programs, policies, procedures and processes as well as working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements (OSHA, DOT, FRA, PHMSA, and EPA), and the ability to use the Internet. The applicant has to be highly organized and able to work with minimal supervision; record keeping is paramount with this job.

  • Soft Skills: Excellent oral and verbal communication skills and organizational skills; the ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, government regulations, professional journals; the ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizations exists; ability to work independently and to meet deadlines; and keen attention to detail.

  • Typical Physical Demands:

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.

  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.

  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.

  • Some overnight and weekend travel may be required.

  • Traveling up to 50-75%
